Olunwa Edozie, 29, was yesterday arraigned before an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly causing injury to the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Dr. Modele Oshunkiyesi, in an official vehicle.
Edozie, whose address is unknown, was accused of driving a Honda Pilot Jeep in a negligent manner.
He was said to have driven against traffic and consequently rammed into a Toyota Avensis in which Oshunkiyesi was an occupant.
The accused is facing a two-count charge of negligent driving brought against him by the police.
One of the charge read: “That you Olunwa Edozie ‘m’ on May 23, 2015, at about 2200hrs along Apapa Oshodi Expressway, inward Mile 2, being the driver in charge of a Honda Pilot Jeep Reg. No. LSR 883 DH, did drive same in a negligent manner by driving against traffic and consequently rammed into a Toyota Avensis salon car Reg. No. LA 082 A08, an official vehicle of the Ministry of Health, Lagos State, valued at N7 million, critically damaged it in the process.”
Police prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, informed the court that the offence was contrary to and punishable under section 28 (1) (A) Cap 172 Vol. 7 of Road Traffic Law, Laws of Lagos State Nigeria 2004.
However, when the charge was read to the accused before Magistrate Akeem Fashola, he pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Fashola granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety who must be a blood relation and had paid tax for three years.
Fashola ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody till perfection of his bail and adjourned the case to June 29, for mention.
